The Department of Environment and Natural Resources through its Environment Management Bureau, Solid Waste Management Division will conduct series of trainings focusing on R.A No. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 to its Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officers (PENROs), Community Environment and Natural Resources Officers (CENROs) and EMB-Provincial Environmental Management Units (PEMUs), which will run from the first week of November until December 2017 and will be held at EMB host Regions namely: CAR, III, IVA, VI, IX, XI, and XII.
The seminar aims to enhance the knowledge of DENR field offices in providing quality technical assistance on solid waste management that is greatly needed by the local government units (LGUs) and other stakeholders within their areas of jurisdiction. Also to address the local SWM concerns at the grassroots levels that have not been completely established and to enable them to come up with necessary programs that will bout the current problem on open dumping and low compliance in the implementation of segregation at source, segregated collection, and waste diversion.
Moreover after several batches of the ESWM seminar, the DENR-EMB field offices are expected to be equipped in enforcing the safe closure and rehabilitation of existing dumpsites in the country and be updated on the new policies and programs on ESWM.
